Femicide in Brazil: Understanding Present and Future Challenges

In this charla, Dr Marcos Signorelli (Federal University of Parana) will provide an overview of femicide in Brazil. Special attention will be paid to the epidemiological data which shows alarming racial disparities among victims of femicide. Dr. Signorelli will also discuss recent national laws and public policies to prevent femicide and other forms of intimate partner violence against women. He will highlight the findings of research conducted with his team at the "Casa da Mulher Brasileira" (House of the Brazilian Woman), which is part of a national network of 24/7 one-stop centers for women experiencing violence in major Brazilian cities.
